Enterprise Designer and Metastorm ProVision.
The first book I wrote was Enterprise Designer - Building a Conscious Organisation. It proposes that you can design any organisation by combining 26 elements. It seems that quite a few people agree and are applying the approach all over the world. There are plenty of modelling tools. I happen to be an expert in Metastorm ProVision so I then wrote a series of books to help business and enterprise architects apply the approach using that platform. However Enterprise Designer can be used with any modelling tool.
After I wrote about the theory of enterprise design, I wrote the Enterprise Designer Workbook. This gave business architects a practical guide to applying the approach using Metastorm ProVision.
When I wrote that book I realised that Metastorm had forgotten to write a technical manual of all the features and functionality. So I wrote Metastorm ProVision 6 Made Easy. The title is ironic as it is over 700 pages long.
Of course as soon as I finished Metastorm came out with an upgrade. So I completely rewrote the book and gave it the stunningly original title Metastorm ProVision 6.2 Made Easy.
Both of these books are reference manuals. However what was missing was a User Guide, a way to know how to combine the features to create models. So I wrote the Metastorm ProVision 6.2 User Guide.
To complete this theme I was approached by UK publishing house PackT to write Open Text Metastorm ProVision 6.2 Strategy Implementation, a book about the strategy of modelling. It isn't enough to understand the technical stuff. You also need to know how to get buy-in from co-workers and senior management. A lot of people have made some horrible mistakes, wasting a lot of money and time. This book has some high level overview of ProVision but most of it is about how you run a successful business architecture practice. I interviewed practitioners around the world who shared insights and war stories.
Shortly after that OpenText bought Metastorm. It will be interesting to see what the next step is.
