Cover Art by Jackie Gorring
My thanks to Jackie Gorring for the use of her beautiful art
Jackie Graham/Gorring is an Australian Printmaker, Her works can be viewed at Parliament house in Canberra, National Gallery of Australia and The Canberra Museum and Art Gallery.
There is a remarkable inventive genius and a very personalised artistic vision in the work of Jackie Gorring. Jackie is predominantly a print-maker who, at her homes in N.S.W and more recently Victoria, has produced some very memorable images of life in rural Australia over the years. What has always been fascinating about Jackies work has been the directness, immediacy and vividness of her imagery. She is a very accomplished artist but one who employs low tech print-making technology to achieve a considerable subtlety of expression. For well over a decade Jackie has used simple polystyrene blocks from which to hand-print very direct relief prints. Using polystyrene as a matrix from which to print on paper or canvas is one of her favourite strategies, another is the use of simple screenprint to print white on remnants of underfelt, sometimes manipulated with colour pencils. The effects are startling and unusual.
