                                Profit = income - expenses

                                That's not the whole picture, just the commercial part of the equation. The full equation is: 

                                Profit = (income - expenses) X Functionality X Capability

                                With the simple equation you only have two choices. Increase revenue or cut costs. That's hard and has limitations. With the upgraded equation you get four choices. When your team is doing the right job at the right time (functionality) at the right level of capability, that's easier.
